Portal $1 Reclamation Channel
INTRODUCTION
page 1
Closure of the mining operation entails the design and
construction of a diversion channel away from the Portal #1 site.
The plan is to construct one or more channels that would convey
snowmelt or storm runoff away from the reclaimed portal area.
Flows would be directed onto undisturbed areas in the vicinity of
the original drainage. It is proposed that the rerouted flows be
directed s3s~ of the existing portal. Below the reclaimed
portal, flows would be returned to the original path.
FLOW VALUES AT PORTAL $1
The drainage area that could contribute to the reclaimed Portal
#1 site was measured on a 1 inch = 500 feet, 40 feet contour
interval map. This area was measured to be 16 acres. To be
conservative, the drainage area was assumed to be ~0 air-s. The
hydrology developed during the initial permitting process was
reviewed. It was determined to be appropriate for this
reclamation phase.

Water ~ Environmental Systems Technology, Inc. April, 1994
