~2Aem~Ai~

3.0 PROCEDURES
The following sections describe well siting, well con-
struction, and water-level measurement procedures.
3.1 Well Site Locations
Three wells were constructed at each of the well sites
identified on Figure 3-1 as GBB (Big Bottom site), GF (northern
•~ mine site), and GZ (southern mine site). Figure 3-2 shows plan
.. views of each well site.
Well site GBB is located approximately 600 feet from
the Yampa River. The well site is adjacent to a segment of the
river where a loss of flow from the river to ground water was
identified during flow studies of the Yampa River conducted by
i Radian in August, 1978.
Well sites GF and GZ are located approximately 5,400
feet apart on a north-south line. Well site GF is slightly
north (downdip) of the area to be mined. Well site GZ is ap-
proximately in the center of the area to be mined. We11 sites
GF and GZ were located to provide water-level data along a dip
section on the southern flank of the Big Bottom Syncline.
3.2 Well Construction

Nine piezometer wells were constructed by Lyster
Drilling, Inc., of Craig, Colorado. All well construction was
supervised in the field by Terry Settergren, Radian Corporation
hydrogeologist. Three piezometer wells were constructed at each
of two sites (GF and GBB) during the period of 13 November 1978
to 22 December 1978. Three additional piezometer wells were
constructed at site GZ from 22 January 1979 to 1 February 1979.
3-1
