The schedule for construction of the check dams, Phase II, will begin
with dams being built in the uppermost portion of the watercourse and
continuing downstream. It is anticipated that the check dams will be
constructed at a rate of about three (3) structures per month. Using this
schedule, all twenty one (21) of the check dams will be completed over a
period of eight (8) work months. For the purposes of scheduling as iC
pertains to this hydrologic reconstruction plan, a work month consists of
twenty (20) work days having suitable weather and soil conditions for
excavation and construction activities. A work day is a calendar weekday. ~I
The schedule for construction of the terraces, Phase IIZ, will begin
with completing the remainder of Terrace 6. Since the watersheds above
this terrace will still be undergoing backfilling and final grading, it
will not be possible to construct any of the upslope terraces prior to this
time. Terrace 6 is designed to convey the runoff from all upslope terraces
and watershed areas, enabling this type of construction sequencing to be
performed.
After Terrace 6 has been constructed, the terraces downslope from
Terrace 6 will be constructed in a sequential manner. Since the grading of
the final pit along the western edge of West Ridge will not have been
completed prior to the construction of the terraces, all of the terraces
• downslope of Terrace 6 will be constructed beginning at the watercourse
between Center Ridge and West Ridge and progress westward along the slope.
The terraces will be constructed as far to the west as possible without
interfering with the final pit grading activities. Terrace 6 and those
portions of the downslope terraces discussed above will be completed within
seven working months following the check dam construction.
In Phase IV, the terraces upslope of Terrace 6 and the remaining
upper portions of the terraces downslope of Terrace 6 will be constructed.
Phase IV construction activities will be completed as soon as practical
after the final pit in the upper portion of West Ridge has been backfilled
and final graded.
From this schedule, it is estimated that a minimum of 15 work months
will be required to complete the West Ridge Hydrologic Restoration Plan.
Climatic conditions at the Edna Mine are generally favorable for working
with surface soils only four months during any given year (June, July,
August and September). Since the plan was implemented at the beginning of
the 1992 construction season, final completion of the reconstruction plan
• would be anticipated to occur by the end of the 1995 construction season.
7
March 31,1994
