Calhoon, Kit Carson County Clerk
Location: N W'/o of the N W %< of Section 35-6-48
Situation:
Kit Carson County seeks to mine gravel and soil from the rangeland in the NW'/< of the NW'/a of
Section 35-6-48. The site is grassland with the surrounding land also being grassland. The
vegetation of the grassland is Western wheatgrass 5%, Tall dropseed 5%, Blue gramma grass
75%, Prairie threeawn 5% and other forbs 10%.
Suggested Solution:
Reclamation of the site will be completed when the use of the pit is terminated. Topsoil will be
stockpiled for use prior to seeding of the grass. After mining is completed the pit area should be
smoothed to a 3:1 slope or flatter with the topsoil replaced on top. Straw mulch should be spread
over the site at the rate of one ton per acre to prevent erosion after grass seeding. Stabilizing
blankets may be substituted for the straw mulch. A three or four wire fence should be
constructed around the seeded site to allow revegetation without livestock disturbance until the
grass is established. Please see the Grass Seeding worksheet for a list of the grass mixtures and
seeding rates.
Note: Seed will be planted by Pure Live Seed (PLS) pounds. The exact dimensions of the
disturbed area will need to be measured to determine the correct amount of seed and mulch to
apply.
Participant:
District Conservationist~~
Date:
Date: ~~ f> 6
Approved by:
Conservation District:.~ent~t '(~(1t'{pS\CZ.~ Date: y-1~~0(0
The Natural Resources Conservation Service provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people
conserve, maintain, and improve our natural resources and environment.
~~~
An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
