Page 2
October 23, 2001
RBC Qwinn Draw Pit
Reclamation Recommendations - During operation of this pit, the
topsoil must be saved and stockpiled for use during reclamation.
The topsoil pile must be kept vegetated and free of invading
weeds until such time as it utilized. On and off site erosion
must be controlled during operation and after the pit is closed.
Measures need to be applied to control runoff entering and
leaving the pit, which may result in sediment pollution and
erosion to downstream areas and properties.
Once the mining operation is completed, the pit should be
contoured and backsloped to slopes no steeper than 3 horizontal
to one vertical. Upon shaping and smoothing the pit surface, all
compacted areas must be ripped and disked, prior to the placement
of 6 inches of topsoil over the entire pit area. Prior to
planting the topsoil should be tilled and firmed to prepare a
suitable seed bed. The site will be revegetated using the
required Bureau of Land Management seed mixture. The seed should
be drilled on the contour either in the spring, prior to May lsc
or in the fall after October 15th
In light of the vegetative condition of the surrounding
area, the pit once planted should be excluded from grazing for a
minimum of two years. During the operational period and
following reclamation and planting, weeds must be timely
controlled on the site either mechanically or through the use of
properly applied herbicides following labeled directions.
