i ~ <br />1/83 <br />i Nesda Variant <br />The Nesda Variant consists of deep, somewhat excessively drained soils <br />on alluvial fans. These soils formed in alluvium. Slope is S to 12 <br />percent. The average annual precipitation is 11 to 13 inches, and the <br />average annual air temperature is 44 to 47 degrees F. <br />Typical pedon of Nesda Variant gravelly sandy loam, 5 to 12 percent <br />slopes, about 2,000 feet west and 260 feet south of the northeast corner of <br />sec. 20, T. 48 N., R. 11 E. <br />A--O to 6 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) gravelly sandy loam, very dark <br />grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak fine granular structure; slightly hard, <br />very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 30 percent gravel; mildly alkaline; <br />clear smooth boundary. <br />AC--6 to 31 inches; brown (lOYR S/3) very gravelly loamy sand, dark <br />' • brown (lOYR 3/3) moist; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky and <br />nonplastic; 45 percent gravel; mildly alkaline; clear wavy boundary. <br />C1-31 to 50 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) very gravelly loam fine sand, <br />brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; massive; soft, nonsticky and"nonplastic; 35 percent <br />gravel; mildly alkaline; gradual wavy boundary. <br />C2--SO to 60 inches; light yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) very gravelly <br />sand, brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky and <br />nonplastic; 50 percent gravel; mildly alkaline. <br />Reaction is mildly alkaline. <br />The mollic epipedon is 20 to 40 inches thick. The profile is 25 to 60 <br />percent rock fragments, dominantly subrounded pebbles 1/8 to 1/4 inch in <br />diameter. Reaction is mildly alkaline. The C horizon is stratified with <br />r • thin lenses of loam. <br />
