Pit 5, had red soil staining associated with the discharges, therefore samples
GGS-1 and GGS-2 were taken, respectively. These have been submitted to an
analytical laboratory to analyze for Total Iron and Total Dissolved Solids. These
springs were absorbed into the soil prior to entering any surface drainages.
Laboratory resuks have not been received as of July 15, 1991. Spring 3, also
near Pit 5, was associated with a slump located along the south slope of Pond
5/6 and was discharging directly to the sediment pond. Pond 5/6 was
discharging at the time of this survey.
All of the springs except Spring 4, which was associated with Pit 6, were found
both down slope and down geologic dip from the spoils. The spring farthest
from the related spoil area was Spring 5 which was approximately 400 ft. west of
the Pit 2 western perimeter. It was, however, located in a natural drainage which
could drain groundwaters from the spoil.
No problems or anomalous conditions were associated with the seeps or springs
near Pits 2, 4, or 6. All of the springs identified in this survey were draining to
roadside ditches with no evidence of significant associated erosion.
