Schmieding
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Your correspondence dated July 27, 1977 for the Greeley
West Pit. Your file #77-81.
Dear Mr. Schmieding:
In response to the memorandum you received from the Deputy
State Engineer of the Division of Water Resources; you should be
aware of the following:
1. DRAWDOWNS AT DISTANCES FROM LAKE EDGE
Distance in Feet Drawdown, in Feet Percent Water Available
Lake Edge 5 13
500 3.6 9
1000 2.2 6
1500 1.0 3
1875 0 0
The table indicates that most of the drawdown occurs within 500
feet of the lake. There will be no drawdown or no impact on water
levels at distances greater than 1875 feet from the lake. When
the magnitude of these drawdowns are compared with the magnitude
of the water in storage and the sand and gravel beneath the Cache
La Poudre River it can be seen that the impact of mining is ne-
gligible on surrounding water levels. This impact is even
further minimized because the drawdowns fdr the lakes intercept
existing gravel operations both on the east and the west and
intercept the Cache La Poudre River on the north. These three
hydrologic barriers prevent the drawdowns from extending any
appreciable distance from our operation. The drawdowns will
extend to the south the total distance of 1875 feet; however,
