• 2.05.3(2)(b)
6325 and rise at a ten percent grade to an elevation of 6340. The bench
will be constructed from the material cut from the proposed portals. The
material cut from the proposed portals will be handled with dozers, earthmovers
and compacted with sheepsfoot rollers.
When the bench is complete, work on the four proposed portals to the Red
Canyon A2 Mine will begin. Power will be established to the portal area.
Proposed locations of power lines are not available at this time. Details
of establishing power to this site will be forwarded when available. Grand
Mesa Coal Company is planning to cut the portals into the "D" coal seam using
continuous miners. Roof support at the start will be in the form of tunnel
liner, arches, and cross-bars and legs until the portals are developed into
substantial roof conditions. At that point, conventional roof support in
the form of roof bolts will be used. Development of the "D" coal seam mine
will continue as described in Section 2.05.3(1). Entry widths for the four
• portals will be 18 to 20 feet and have heights of eight to ten feet. Of
the four portals, two will be intake and access, one will be a beltway and
the fourth will be the main return. Refer to the Proposed Surface Disturbance
Map, 2.05.3(2)(b)-1, for identification and location of each of the four
portals.
The third site in which proposed surface disturbance will occur is the proposed
underground development waste disposal site. Grand Mesa Coal Company is
proposing to extend the present underground development waste disposal site.
Refer to the Affected Land Map, 2.04.3(2)(a)-2, for the location of the present
underground waste disposal site. The proposal is to extend the disposal
site further to the east. north and south as indicated on the Proposed Surface
Disturbance Map, 2.05.3(2)(b)-1. This extension is necessary to allow for
the increase in underground development waste which will result from the
addition of the proposed Red Canyon R2 Mine to the Red Canyon #1 Mine. Refer
to Section 2.05.3(9) fora detailed narrative, and cross sections for the
proposed underground development waste disposal site.
• 86 (Revised 1-8-88)
