I note that we did not receive this request
until April 30, 1991. The following is a brief summary of the application:
1. The applicant proposes to mine gold via an open pit on a 7.3 acre
site in a previously mined area near the town of Fairplay, Colorado.
2. The applicant proposes to construct two ponds, a settling pond and a
recirculation pond, for this operation. The total volume of the two
ponds will be approximately 7.16 acre-feet.
3. No ground water is expected to be encountered in this operation.
4. The applicant has a lease agreement for up to four (4) cfs of water
from the Platte City Placer Mine Ditch to meet all water needs. The
Platte City Placer Mine has been decreed for industrial purposes with
a priority date of December 31, 1867.
Based upon the above information, it appears that the applicant has sufficient
water for this operation and we recommend approval. I do note that if ground
water is exposed in the course of this operation, the applicant will need to
obtain a well permit in conjunction with a substitute water supply plan
approved by this office.
Please contact this office if you have any questions.

~~ OF ~ COIp~~
Fe q: ~~90
h O `~ ~i~
+ X876 +
OFFICE OF THE STATE ENGINEER
DIVISION OF WATER RESOURCES
~ cc: David Fox, Assistant Division Engineer
Mark Curry, Water Commissioner
~n Hernandez, MLRD Reclamation Specialist
