The main plant
association is tufted hairgressjsedge. Elevation ranges from 8,b00 to 9,400
Tile average annual
recipitation is 17 to 20 inches
feet above sea level
.
.
p
COMPOSITION AND INCLUSIONS

Included in this unit are small areas of Cryaquolls soils and Cryohemists soils
cn more poorly drained sites. Some units south of Creede have inclusions of
soil with a 2 to 24 inch thick layer of acid overwash material from acid mine
tailings
Included areas make up about 15 percent of this map unit
.
.
SAILS

Aquic Cryofluvents soils are deep and poorly drained. They formed iu coarse
textured alluvium. A reference profile has a very dark grayish brown very
gravelly sandy loam surface layer about 3 inches thick. The upper part of the
substratum is dark yellowish brown very gravelly loamy sand about 9 inches
tF~ick. The middle pert of the substratum is brown very gravelly fine sandy
lcam about 6 inches thick. The lower part of the substratum is dark brown
extremely gravelly sand that extends to 60 inches or more.
Permeability of Aquic Cryofluvents soils is rapid. Available water capacity is
very ]ow. F,ffective rooting depth is about 12 to j0 inches depending on the
dc~th and duration of the water table. Runoff is slow and water erosion hazard
is low. A seasonal high water table occurs at depths of 0.5 to 3.0 feet during
sp^ing and early summer. Flooding also may occur during this period.
POTENTIAL NATURAL VEGETATION

The main plant association on this unit is tufted hairgrassJsedge. Other
plants in the association include bluegrass, Arizona fescue. Rocky Mountain
iris, willow, Baltic rush, shrubby cinquefoil, and milkvetch.

PRESENT VEGETATION
Bluegrasses dominate some areas, but otherwise, much of the area is composed
of various combinations of the plants in the main association.
io QC:
a~-r
s~,•P
(' ~ c
ir-o 1-a.:~'.f
~ n`
~~.'j_ rY.
