72 West, 6th P.M., Custer County, Colorado. App,Ticants pro-
pose to remove ~rom_irrigation the S~$SW}NW} of said-section _
- - 30 and develop this 9:9 acres as a .gravel pit.. -
Applicants do not presently know the rate of conversion
of this land to gravel pit. It is expected that the pit will
be a minimum of 14 feet deep and ground water will be exposed.
]:n order to prevent injury to other water right owners, appli-
cants will at this time provide augmentation water for the
entire 9.9 acres.
The evaporation at the gravel pit site, elevation 7900
feet, is calculated to be 1.61 feet per year, based on Tech- `
it
njral Paper Ne. .37, U.S. Department of Commerce, ;leather °u-
r•eau, 1959, corrected for natural precipitation. This amounts
t:o 1.67 x 9.9 = 16.53 acre feet.
The consumptive use of native hay, or grass, at the al-
titude of 7,900 feet has been found to be on the order of
16.9 to 21.6 inches, according to U.S. Department of Agri-
culture publication ARS-W-6, February 1974. Removing the
4.9 acres from irrigation results in a saving of 9.9 x 21.6
12
= 17.82 acre feet, or a 1.29 acre feet net savings in water
by the conversion of use. Upon approval of this application,
applicants will remove from irrigation 9.9 acre of irriga-
ted native hay and monument the corners of this tract, de-
scribed as follows: SE}SWsNW; Section 30, Township 22 South,
Range 72 West, 6th P.M.
Applicants own a one-tenth interest in the Risser and
Locke Ditch, Priority No. 134 for 5.11 c.f.s. and Appropri-
ation date of June 1, 1875. Average diversions by this ditch
for the 10-year period 1977-1986 have been 984 acre feet or
14x.52 a.f. per second foot and 19.45 a.f. per 0.10 c.f.s.
Aoplicants will. therefore, abandon to the stream 0.085 c.f.s.
of their ownership to offset any injury to other water right
owners on the stream.
This operation will result in a net gain to the stream
until such time as the full 9.9 acres of gravel pit is ex-
cavated, at which time equilibrium will be achieved.
Applicants request appr al of this plan of augmentation
and issuance of a decree th re-or.
~, ~
ra m.
