First quarter 2005
sediment pond inspections were conducted on Mazch 9, 2005. Most of the ponds were dry with the exception of
9A-Pl, 9-P2, 9-P3, HR-PIA, SA-P1, 5-P5, 5-P6, and 5-P7. Ponds holding water were all well below the
dischazge level. None of the ponds were reportedly discharging at the time of the inspection.
Several maintenance items were identified. Pond 5-P7 has muskrat burrows in the embankment that have
resulted in seepage. RAG-EC/BTU-Empire has tamed off the mine dewateting pump to allow the ponds to dry
Repair to the embankment is scheduled for this spring. Tamarisk have also been identified neaz pond. Weed
eradication is planned. Pond 9-P3 has badger holes on the embankment as well. The operator indicates that
these holes will be repaired as well. Knapweed was identified in the SH-1 and SH-2 pond azeas. The operator
has scheduled weed spraying on this area too.
Copies of the quarterly reports need to be maintained at the mine office and at the Division's office as per Rule
4.05.9(17). Please submit 2005 Sediment Pond Inspection reports within 2 weeks of inspection.
Sinc ly, j
\~
net H.
