EX BIT D - Wildlife Attachment
The following information pertaining tq wilrllifr. is pro vidnd for u;e by
the Land Reclamation ©oard in their consideration nF 2 mining permit.
for Taminco, Inc.
The Colorad^ Division of Wildlife does hereby find, to the best of our
knowledge, that the impact of the proposed mining operation ^n wildlife
will he
minor
~X moderate If deer herds were at the maximum, this could be major.
major
Mina Location: T. 46 tl., R. 17 4J., Sec. 18; T. 46 N., R. 18 4J., Sections 17 & 18;
T. 46 N., R. 18 4J., Sections 13, 14, 23 & 24
Wildlife Species List: Cmay be attached) Major species impacted are deer
and elk. Bald and golden eagles use the area to hunt. Coyote, bobcat, mountain
lions, cottontail rabbits, badger, and many species of small mammals and birds.
inhabit the area.
Endangered Species Impacted: None that are known.
Assessment of Impact on Wildlife: (may be attached) Road construction (drill
and service) along with human activity will cause an impact on deer and elk. Loss of
winter and spring forage in sagebrush parks, especially close to pinyon-juniper.
will also cause an impact on deer and elk. Human activity and noise associated
with the project will keep the deer use in sagebrush parks mostly around the
edges. Elk are using this area more and more each year.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations: (may be attached) Road construction
should be kept at a minimum to decrease forage disturbance and human activity.
Roads should avoid sagebrush parks (stay in pinyon-juniper). A11 roads should
be closed and reseeded. Ponds should be built where possible. Pinyon-juniper
that is disturbed should be piled for use as cover for small mammals. No housing
facilities should be built away from the main portal.
Prepared by Ron Arant Titln Wildlife Conservation Officer
Date August 30, 1977
D-3
