04-03-1996 1359 303 aa7 2999 <br />Interim Results from <br />P.02 <br />Reclamation <br />of a Rock Quarry <br />Near Eldorado Springs, CC): <br />Talus Buttress Slope Topdressed <br />with Water Treatment Plant <br />Filter Fines <br />Description of the Project - Background <br />The City of Boulder Open Space Department acquired i:he rights <br />tv the operation of a rock quarry near Eldorado Spring:: in <br />February, 1993. Alternative plans to reclaim the site ~~rere <br />reviewed by the Boulder Open Space Board of Trustees and <br />public comment. The selected plan included, in addition to <br />general regrading to remove interior pit dropoffs and eliminate <br />steep-sided piles, the reconstruction of the toestope of a large <br />talus area that had been undercut by mining (Figure 1). This <br />undercut talus slope was slowly loosing large and smaVl rocks <br />downslope resulting in a safety hazard as well as causing a <br />growing aesthetic problem as the loss of weathered and lichen- <br />covered rocks exposed lighter colored rock beneath. <br />Buttressing the slope by rebuilding the toe that had been mined <br />away was chosen to stop further degradation. <br />
