• The yellow-billed cuckoo is listed as a candidate species by the USFWS.
No habitat such as gallery forests used by the yellow-billed cuckoo is found
within the project area.
The boreal toad is listed as a candidate species. There is no suitable habitat
for this species found in or around the project area.
No federally listed T&E species would be affected by activities
associated with the proposed exploration program.
There are numerous mammals, birds and amphibians listed as Sensitive
Species by the Forest Service. However, habitat is lacking for all but a few
of these species. Those that are known to occur, or for which suitable habitat
exists in varying amounts within the area studied for the project include:
American marten, northern goshawk, olive-sided flycatcher, purple martin
and logger-head shrike. None of these species were observed during the
survey.
No federally listed Sensitive species would be affected by activities
• associated with the proposed exploration program.
There are 13 Management Indicator Species (MIS) listed by the USFS for
the GMUG, which were addressed. Habitat is lacking for 7 species
including: Rocky Mountain and desert big horn sheep, Abert's squirrel,
Lewis' woodpecker, Gunnison sage grouse, Pinyon jay and Colorado River
cutthroat trout. Of the remaining 6 species mule deer, elk and bears are
common throughout the area. American marten, northern goshawks and
hairy woodpeckers are known to occur in the general area. The limited
amount of habitat to be disturbed should have no effect on use of this area by
any of these species.
No Management Indicator Species would be affected by activities
associated with the proposed exploration program.
There will be small amounts of habitat affected and changes in vegetation
patterns could actually be beneficial to some of the above listed species as
well as other non-listed species.
