USFS 711 has been maintained by MCC as an access road to exploration drill hole and MDW
sites over the previous decade. Upgrades and improvements to the road include gravel, culverts,
ditches, gates, and drainage control structures. During 2002 the approximately four miles
between the USFS boundary below Minnesota Reservoir and the Deep Creek crossing was
bladed, spot graveled, and upgraded with culverts and sediment control devices to facilitate
access to the 17-01 MDW location north of the Deep Creek crossing.
The Lions Mesa Exploration Area may be accessed either by the existing Gunnison County Road
710 to the intersection of the 4WD roads in the Lick and South Prong Creek drainages which are
on MCC privately held lands; or by USFS classified system Road 711 to Road 7112A in the Deer
Creek drainage and thence to 4WD roads along Lions Mesa to the Lick and South Prong Creek
drainages which are on MCC privately held lands. The routes selected will be determined by road
conditions, exposure and safety for personnel and equipment, and scheduling of equipment with
other MCC drilling activities. MCC plans for general road and drainage maintenance on the
Lions Mesa for 2005, which could include culvert repair and replacement, noxious weed control,
and fence repair and iristallation.
MCC holds a current Road Use Permit for the 9.5 miles of road from the lower corrals on
Minnesota Creek to the Deep Creek Crossing. MCC has applied for a Special Use Road Permit
from the Forest Service for the remaining 5.5 miles of FS roads that could potentially be used in
the drilling project.
Exploration Drill Hole CCC:
Accessed from FS 711 by an existing 0.13 miles of road utilized by the Minnesota Reservoir and
Canal Company for access to their cabin and irrigation ditch.
The pad would be constructed southwest of the ditch rider's cabin in an approximate 100'X135'
footprint leaving a minimum 50' buffer of existing aspen and understory for a visual screen from
the cabin. The pad will be brushed and cleared with a minimum amount of topsoil disturbed to
aid in reclamation. MCC estimates '/2 of the pad site would have topsoil scraped and salvaged in
an uphill location next to the pad site. At the completion of drilling the pad would be contoured
back to approximate original elevation, seeded, mulched, and fertilized with the removed brush
and timber pulled back onto the pad.
Exploration Drill Hole FFF:
Accessed from FS 711 approximately 0.6 miles east of the Deep Creek Crossing via a 100'
temporary road along an existing ATV track.
The pad would be constructed south side of FS 711 in an approximate trapezoidal shape of
100'X90'X135'. The site is on a peninsula of land between two intermittent watercourses, which
may flow during spring runoff. The pad will be brushed and cleared with a minimum amount of
topsoil disturbed to aid in reclamation. MCC estimates '/z of the pad site would have topsoil
scraped and salvaged in an uphill location next to the pad site. The pad will be brushed and
• cleazed with a minimum amount of topsoil disturbed to aid in reclamation. Vigilance and every
precaution will be taken to prevent any un-natural material from escaping the drill site including
