3-5
•
That portion of the access road located along the canyon slopes
(wildlife habitat) will be reclaimed utilizing a backhoe and
bulldozer. trlaterial will be pulled from the downslope and cast
into the road area to approximate original drainages, proposed
post-mining land use and surrounding land use.
Backfilling is discussed in Section 3.3.
All grading will be done on the contour where possible. Where
such an operation would not provide a safe condition for the
equipment operator, quick growing grasses will be established by
broadcasting for protection against erosion and siltation. The
backfill areas (sealing of drift entries, road work and sediment
• ponds) will be roughed on those slopes where equipment can be
safely operated in order to provide protection against slippage.
3.2 Topsoil Removal and Storage
Two soil units occur in the 0.5 acre area of the sediment pond, the
~Rivra gravelly sandy loam variant (0.2 acres) and Nihill loam ~
(0.3 acres). Recommended stripping depths are 12 inches and 16
inches, respectively, based on data present in Table 4.7-2.
Volumes of topsoil available for stripping and stockpiling have
been calculated from the acreage of the soil mapping units percent of
strippable soils, and recommended stripping depths. A total of 0.56
acre-feet (900 bcy) of soil will be salvaged from the sedimen
. area.
~-
