3-17
Shrubs to be planted will include Utah Serviceberry (Amelanchier
• utahensis), Big Sagebrush (Artemisia tridentate), Fourwing Saltbush
(Atriplex canescens), Shadscale Saltbush (Atriplex confertifolia),
Winterfat (Ceratoides Lantana), True Mountain Mahogany ((;erocarpus
montanus), Rubber Rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus), Gambel's
Oak (Buercus gambelii), Prostrate Summer Cypress (Xochia prostrate),
and Skunkbush (Rh us trilobata). These shrubs will also be direct
seeded and will be contained in the seed mixture. Separate seed
mixtures may be required to meet the specific planting requirements
for the various species.
Disturbances in the big sagebrush and greasewood shrubland are
relatively small. The disturbance is mainly a widening of the
• farming road in the bottom of the valley. In the narrow strips
along the road that will be regraded and revegetated, the respective
seed mixes for each vegetation type may be drill seeded or broadcast
seeded. The planting density will be about 70 seeds per square foot
for drill seeding and about 100 seeds per square foot for broadcast
seeding.
In consultation with the agencies involved in the revegetation at
the Munger Canyon Mine, Salt Creek proposes to eliminate Greasewood
from its revegetation seed mix. The elimination of greasewood will
enhance the value of the land for its post mining use, rangeland and
wildlife habitat. The return of the current dense shrub cover may
in fact be detrimental.

M R-G9 61/92
