Section 815.15 (c) Continued. <br />• to minimize disturbance of the area. In no case will a new road <br />ford any stream or wet area, unless proven to be the best alter- <br />native from an environmental point of view, nor will natural <br />drainages be diverted. Wherever needed, water bars and ditches <br />will be constructed to control runoff. <br />Subject to the provisions of Section 776.12, as soon as these new <br />roads are no longer needed they will be reclaimed according to the <br />requirements of 30 CFR 816.176. For additional information, see <br />the discussion under 30 CFR 816.170-816.176. Any existing roads in <br />the area will be altered for exploration purposes only in so far as <br />they may be widened or smoothed to accomodate exploration equipment <br />and in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and local <br />requirements. Water bars and ditches will be added where appro- <br />priate. All existing roads to be used during the exploration <br />program will be left in a condition that is superior to their <br />• preexploration condition. <br />(d) If excavations, artificial flat areas, or embankments are created <br />during exploration, these areas shall be returned to the approximate <br />original contour promptly after such features are no longer needed for <br />coal exploration. <br />Subject to the qualifications of Section 776.12 any drill sites <br />that are no longer needed for exploration will be returned to <br />their approximate original contour promptly after it is no <br />longer needed for coal exploration. <br />(e) Topsoil shall be removed, stored, and redistributed on disturbed <br />areas as necessary to assure successful revegetation or as required by <br />the regulatory authority. <br />Topsoil will be removed prior to the construction of any drill <br />• site. After the site is recontoured, the topsoil will be redistri- <br />buted over the surface in a manner that will provide successful <br />B15-6 <br />
