January 15, 2004
Mr. Anthony J. Waldron
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Subject: Transmittal of Groundwater Analytical Results
GCC Rio Grande Red Rock Plant and Limestone Mine
Pueblo, Colorado
File No. M-2002-004
November 2003 Sampling Results
Dear Mr. Waldron:
With this letter, Brown and Caldwell is transmitting to the Division of Minerals and
Geology (DMG) the analytical results fox groundwater samples collected at the GCC
Rio Grande Red Rock Plant and Limestone Mine Site. Samples were collected and
analyzed to satisfy Condition #1 of the Mined Land Reclamation Board's approval of
GCC Rio Grande's 112c mining permit application: Baseline Water Quality Sampling.
Groundwater sampling for the month of November 2003 was conducted on
November 25, 2003. Sampling methods followed those outlined in the Condition # 1
Groundwater Sampling Plan dated March 2003.
Groundwater samples were collected from the Saint Charles River alluvial aquifer at
monitoring well locations MW-002 and MW-004. Groundwater was not detected in
monitoring wells MW-OOlA and MW-003; therefore, MW-OOlA and MW-003 could
not be sampled. Since the pump for DW-1 was not in place at the time of sampling,
no samples were taken of the DW-1 Dakota aquifer well. Samples were analyzed fox
the parameters listed in Condition #1. The analytical results are summarized in Tables
1, 2, 3, and 4.
Attachment A presents copies of the analytical reports prepared by ACZ Laboratories,
Inc. and Reservoirs Environmental, Inc. Sample D-8 is a duplicate sample collected
from monitoring well MW-002. Sample MW-006 is an equipment blank collected by
pouring bottled distilled water over equipment used at multiple monitoring well
locations.
\IBCDEN031projecls\DalalGENIFS-P-71224211S1ipulaCion RespouselGroundwater SamplinglSampling ResultsINov
2003Wov 2003 DMG L.e[[ecdoc
