- 18 -
vrater level may remain stable temporarily so that both the drain-~
~:ge system and the retaining wall might be installed at the
same time.
5. Attention should be paid to careful surface drainage so
that the existing conditions of surface drainage are not de-
teriorated by the proposed construction.
6. 4ie expect that not all details of the drainage systems ~
and construction procedures can be worked out during the design;
they will have to be decided during the construction phase. ~
3.4 OTHER STRUCTURES
There are several other structures and facilities proposed ~
that are located within the landslide area. They include the
substation with a short road connecting it with the access road;
a shop and warehouse with the adjoining temporary offices and
parking lot; in the future, a waste rock conveyor is proposed.
A large refuse pile will be located immediately above the land-
slide area. The access road would be extended to the refuse pile .
i
level.
Located outside the landslide area, but close to its toe,
is a runoff pond(M3 ~ 1) and the fresh water pond (FW ~ 1).
Geotechnical conditions and design considerations for these
structures and facilities were discussed at several meetings
with Pferrick ~ Company representatives. A summary of our re-
commendations for these structures is presented in the follow-
ing paragraphs:
i
The substation is located in the lower and flatter part of
the landslide areas stabilitq conditions o£ old landslides are
u.o.naoca.mn.+n..c
