4. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
• 4.1. Specific Conclusions
Engineering and geomorphic analysis of the Colorado Yampa Coal
Company Eckman Park Mine existing versus approved postmining topography
provides the following conclusions:
1. Existing hillslopes are not significantly different from
approved hillslopes.
2. Existing valley side-slopes are significantly less than approved
valley side-slopes. This should improve the stability of these
slopes.
• 3. Drainage density has increased slightly due to mining and
reclamation, however, the change is within the limits of natural
variation in drainage density. Increased drainage density
should enhance the stability of the drainage network.
4. Material (i.e., spoil) has not been significantly rearranged by
mining and reclamation.
5. The swale at the top of the mine is not inconsistent with
surrounding natural landforms.
6. Hillslope gradients along the upper portions of the swale are
within the range of natural gradients found along colluvial
• slopes.
39
