Analysis of channel slope versus <br />drainage area, however, indicates that specific stream channel locations <br />may prove difficult to stabilize with vegetation alone. Since flow is <br />concentrated and erosive energy is increased in a stream channel, <br />variations in channel slope are not tolerated by the geomorphic system <br />as easily as on hillslopes. Suggested treatments for these areas <br />include reducing flow with diversions or stock ponds, reducing slope <br />through regrading, reducing slope using check dams, or protecting the <br />channel bottom with riprap. <br />• <br />• <br />27 <br />
