r
~EXHIBT D
~ WILDLIFE STATEMENT
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for
use by the Mined Land Reclamation Board in their consideration of
a mining permit for Dick Casey Concrete, Inc.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife does hereby find, to the best of
our knowledge, that the impact of the proposed mining operation on
wildlife will be
X minor
moderate - '~ -
major
Mine Location: Approximately one mile east of Rifle, CO and north
of Colorado River
Wildlife Species List: (may be attached}
Mule Deer, Raccoon, Cottontail Rabbits, Ducks '(Mallard, teal, Widgeon,
Goldeneye, etc.), Canada Geese, Gray Fox
JEndangered Species Impacted: Bald Eagle does frequent this range but
//// should not be adversely affected.
Assessment of Impact on Wildlife: (may be attached)
This is a re-work of an existing pit and it will not.have an adverse
affect on wildlife.
Reclamation Recommendations: (may be attached)
I recommend that the SC5 rehabilitation plan be followed but have the
banks sloped on 3:1. Also, because of the number of geese using this
area an island left in the center of the pit would be desirable as a
nesting site and it would also improve the aesthetics of the pit. The
island should be re-vegetated, preferably with willow brush, and
rip-rapped to prevent erosion by wave action.
Prepared by Gene Byrne
Date 11-27-78
Title DWM
xc: Byrne
Whitaker,FCn.
