When
VALCO leased and permitted this property, it had been potholed and messed
up for many years prior. This summer's work started development of the pit
in a logical, workmanlike manner,• but space was tight. This is the reason
you saw equipment parked on topsoil stockpiles. The trench for trash was
to keep this trash from blowing all over the area. The trash and oil con-
taminated overburden either has been hauled away or will be within the next
2 to 3 weeks.
The platform or bench for equipment parking will be removed, topsoil reworked
and spread aver the area. The Lessor thinks grass looks better and will do
his cattle more goood than sagebrush. The area will be reseeded this fall.
The pit floor andface will be left far equipment location and extraction
in the future.
The crushing equipment has already been removed for this season. The asphalt
plant will be removed in 2 to 3 weeks. Reseeding of the 3 to 4 acre disturbed
area will done shortly before the snow flies. Stockpiles will remain.
Now that the pit has been opened in a logic3~1 manner, the operator assures
me that they will salvage, segregate and stabilize topsoil stockpiles. eke
topsoil area will be flazeed_and_planted-wi-th-the recommended 121tLA Western
whea`tg s -' "
This should answer the points you raised. If there are other questions, please
contact me.
Cordially
Lloyd V. "Buck" Barnhart
VALCO Consultant
cc: VALCO/Gunnison Concrete Division
