Division Director
Introduction
Application for the Angie Pit was filed with DMG on April 20, 2000. The application proposes a
dry, surface sand and gravel extraction and processing operation with three separate phases
located in pasture and rangeland on the southwest side of Wright's Mesa, 1.5 miles southeast of
Redvale, Colorado. The application indicates that the proposed 90.5 acre affected area will be
mined with no more than ten acres disturbed at any time, and will be reclaimed to pasture with .8
acres remaining as permanent access road. Mining is proposed to be conducted over the next
69.5 years.
Objectors and Commentors
Four letters of objection were received during the public comment period that ended June 7,
2000. Two of the letters of objection were submitted by Evelyn C. Bray (Ms. Bray), on May 10
and May 1 7, 2000. One letter of objection was submitted by Robert W. Bray (Mr. Bray) on May
18, 2000. One letter of objection was submitted by Beverly Smesrud-Stewart (Ms. Stewart) on
May 18, 2000. Agency comments were received from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, from
the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the State Engineers Office, Division of Water Resources.
An Informal Conference was held on June 13, 2000, in Redvale, Colorado. During the 5-day
comment period following the Informal Conference, DMG received two letters identifying
additional issues that were raised at the Informal Conference. The first letter was submitted by
Ms. Stewart on June 16, 2000. The second letter was submitted by Michelle Smesrud (Ms.
Smesrud) on June 20, 2000. Both were in attendance and verbally raised their issues at the
Informal Conference.
Parties to the Application and Their Objections
Ms. Stewart and Ms. Smesrud have indicated that they wish to have party status for the Angie
Pit application process. At the Informal Conference, Ms. Bray submitted a written request to be
withdrawn from party status. On June 16, 2000, Mr. Bray submitted a written request that he
not be named as a party to the application process.
