L•XPLANpTI~I OF TABLE F-1 RESERVES
Northern Coal Company in the Mine Permit Application lists the
mineable reserves as 205,666,500 tons and the recoverable reserves
as 83,270,273 tons with a recovery factory of 40%.
The apparent substantial difference can be explained as follows:
1. All five of the mineable seams have azeas along the outcrop
where "burn" occurs,
2. Areas of coal have been excluded from the mine plan because
there is less than the 7 ft minimum coal seam height required
to economically mine them,
• 3. Substantial areas of the P-seam have been discounted
because of inseam rock splits in excess of 1 ft. Mining of
azeas having greater than 1 ft inseam rock or bore would
make the coal product ash content in excess of 20% deeming
it unsaleable,
4. Areas near the outcrop have been discounted because of
having less than the minimum thickness of overburden
required to reasonably assure favorable mining conditions.
Minimum overburden thickness used in calculating mineable
azeas of the total reserve was ±200 ft.

F-14a
