Blake, Director
Colorado Division of Mines
Department o£ Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Norm:
I have had a chance to examine the available data on
the Mead and Polar Star Ditch and the Black Hawk Ditch. I
am not aware of whether you have any interes*_ in the Mead
and Polar. Star Extension Ditch, but all three, as you may
be aware, are connected.
The Meat: and Polar Star Ditch originally diverted on
the west bank of North Clear Creek, with the water being
carried by flume 605 feet to the Mead Mill. The Mead and
Po lair Star Extension Ditch received its waters from the
discharge of the Die ad and Polar Star Ditch adjacent to the
Dread Mill building. Its waters were carried by means of an
underground flume to the Polar Star Mill. The Black Hawk
Uitc:h originally had its own point of diversion on the west
bank: of North Clear Creek, but began, around 1876, to take
its water from the discharge of the water wheel of the Polar
Stan Mill, conveying the waters by flume some 817 feet to
the Black Hawk Mill. I have copies of the filing maps for
all three ditches; should you wish to have them, please let
me know. -
All three ditches were adjudicated in the Octcber 9,
1919 decree for water district 7. All three claim a priority
dates of December 31, 1859, giving them top priority with the
Kimber Flume and Sensenderfer Ditch for the 1914 adjudication.
Prior decrees in old Water District 7 had been entered in
1895• and 1884, primarily for irrigation purposes. In this
respect, your rights for industrial and other uses_a~r~~u~nior
to a. very large number of other diverters on Clear Creek an~Ic"
elsewhere.
