r~
~J
2.1 GROUND WATER-LEVEL CHANGES
The water-level changes for the period of record are presented on
figures in Appendix A. Depth to water and water level elevation are
tabulated in this appendix, also. Table A-1 in Appendix A presents
the water level data for wells GA 1, GA2, GB1, and GB2. Water-level
changes for well GA1, which is completed in the QR aquifer, are shown
on the hydrograph on Figure A-1 of Appendix A. The Q and R coal, seams
are presently being mined less than 1500 feet from this well to the
east and less than 3500 feet to the west. water levels were rising at
an average rate of three feet per year during 1986. Water levels have
declined at a higher rate in 1987 with the water level for November
• dropping approximately six feet in two months.
Water levels for well GA2 (see Figure A-2), which is completed in
the KLM aquifer, responded similarly in the last four years with a
water-level rise each spring followed by a decline for the remainder
of the year. The net result of the water-level changes in well GA2
for the past year seem to be a slight decrease.
Well GB1 is completed in the sandstone below the I coal (RLM
aquifer) and is located at the base of the A pit, where the H and i
coal seams are mined. Mining occurred in this area during 1985.
Figure A-3 shows that water levels have continued to rise at a steady
rate during the last year except the last measurement. The November
• 1987 value is significantly lower.
2-3
