i
z
,i
1,
.ronfill9 Co
.1:i/78
MY
V7A--Quamon gravelly sandy loam_,__0 to_3_percent slopes
i
This is a' deep, sonewhat ercccsively drained soil on lbw terracas
adjacent to streamsl,at elevations of ",600 to 3,60o feet. It fDrmed in
alluvium derived mainly from iEneous rocks.
I
i
Included in this unit are :small areas of similar soils with ro6l:
fragments mainly 3 to 10 inches in diameter, Shawa soils and LaJara.
J{
" soils, all on 0 to 3 percent slopes.
Typically the surface layer is dark grayish brown gravelly, sandy
loam about 8 inches thick. The underlying material is dark brown very
gravelly loamy sand and sand that extends to 60 inches.
Permeability is rapid. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more.
Ii Available water capacity is low. Surface runoff is slow and .efosiehi
hazard is slight. There is a seasonal tiratertable within 3.5 to 4 .feet j
I
iduring the spring and summer ranoff period in most years.
i
This soil is used for native range and for irrigated pasture and hay-
land. Potential vegetation on this soil is drominated by blue grams,
Indian ricegrass and sand dropseed. Rabbi brush and squirreltail are
prominent, but widely spaced. .When the range deteriorates, the proportion
of more desirable grasses decreases and the proportion of rabbtbrush
and blue grams increases. Undesirable weeds and annual plants invade
I
and become more abundant as range condition becomes poorer.
i
J
