DESCRIPTIO': This item shall consist of the excavation, transporting, placing and compaction of materials obtained from locations indicated on the plans, er staked by the Engineer, as necessar_•• for the proper construc- tion of embankments for sedimentation dams. _. GE;~ERAL A Soils Engineer shall be the Owner's representative to test the fill compaction. The Soils Engineer shall approve the material, and the method of placing, placement moistures and compaction and shall give a written approval of the completed fill. 3. CLE.4RI`:G JOB SITE The Contractor will be required Co remove all trees, brush and rubbish before excavation is begun. The Contractor shall pile and burn or otherwise dispose of this cleared material so as to provide the Owner with a clean, neat appearing job site. Cleared material shall not be placed in areas to receive fill or where the material will support structures of any kind. 4. SCARIFI'ING AREA TO BE FILLED All vegetable matter shall be removed from the surface upon which the fill is to be placed and the surface shall then be plowed or scari- fied to a depth of at least six (6) inches and until the surface is free from rut=_, hummocks or other uneven features, which would tend to prevent uniform compaction by the equipment to be used. 5.
