The reclamation plan sepazately addresses the three azeas to be reclaimed, 1) the North
Pit, 2) the haul road to the North Pit, the Permanently Reclaimed Spoils Area, and Topsoil
Stockpile # 2, and 3) reconstruction of Cazbon Junction Canyon. ACross-Section Map
provides a compazison between the existing and final topography. The Final Contour Map
shows the reclaimed contours at a contour interval oftwo feet.
North Pit Reclamation
Coal stripping occurred at this location during the operation of the Cazbon Junction Mine.
Current disturbance consists of the exposed sandstone layer forming the base of the coal
seam that was mined, a relatively flat bench area, and adjacent downspoiied fd1 below the
bench.
Reclamation of the North Pit involves the following tasks:
1) Returning as much downspoiled fill as possible from the slope below to the North Pit
bench azea. Downspoiled material will be used to partially backfill the bench area and
sandstone scarp. A large tracked excavator will be employed for this task, sited on the
bench or on an intermediate bench below the main bench.
2) Moving the recovered spoiled fill material and side cut to the base of the bench adjacent
to the sandstone at the inside edge of the bench using a bulldozer and/or the tracked
excavator.
3) Moving all boulders and cobble material from the bench area to the inside edge of the
bench prior to remaining backfilling. This will be done with a bulldozer and/or a tracked
excavator.
4) Recovering the remaining needed fill from the Permanently Reclaimed Spoils Area
below the North Pit. Backfilling will leave a 30 foot wide bench and backfill the sandstone
scarp to a grade of 3H:1 V (see Cross-Section Map). This task will be undertaken with a
front-end loader and dump truck team The upper segment of the sandstone scarp cannot
be backfilled at this grade and will remain as it currently exists.
5) Regrading the North Pit bench fill to final contour with a bulldozer.
6) Loading and hauling topsoil from Topsoil Stockpile #2 to cover the entire North Pit
bench fill area with eight to twelve inches of topsoil.
7) Regrading and spreading of the topsoil. Some topsoil will be spread over the bench
outslope to cover downslope spofl that could not be retrieved with the tracked excavator.
TR08, TRI1 (v1.0) 5-30 Revised 9/97, 08/02
