aquifers containing high quality water in the area (Gurrlebook ro the Energy Resources ojThe
Piremrce l3nsrn, Co(or'nrfo, 1974, Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists). All groundwater
encountered by bedrock drilling in the area is very salty and unsuitable for domestic use. There
is tto shallow groundwater present at the proposed mine site due to the presence of solid rock
beneath the rock slides. The nearest identifiable shallow groundwater is iu the alluvium along
Flag Geek about I mile east of the proposed mine site. This water is limited in quantity and
comparable in quality to the water iu the creek.
Wildlife Information (Exhibit H)
There is extensive use of the area by mule deer and elk during the winter months. In the summer
most of the large animals move to higher elevations on the White River National Forest east of
the site. Smaller animals inhabiting the area include ground squirrels, porcupines, cottontail
rabbits, a variety of small birds, coyotes, and skunks.
The Division of Wildlife Biologist in ivieeker was contacted regarding the occurrence of critical
habitat in lhr, area. According to the Division, there is no known critical habitat in the area. A
letter to that effect was obtained from the Division and was submitted with the 110 application
R1an-Made Structures (Exhibit S)
There are several manmade structures within I mile of the proposed mine. A cow camp is
located approximately 'h mile north of the proposed permit boundary and is part of the existing
ranch facilities for the R lazy J Ranch. The cow camp is used occasionally as a hunting croup.
Several small structures including a cabin are at this location. The other structure within 1 mile
of the mining area is located on the Gruzen property about I/4 mile south of the proposed permit
boundary. The Gruzen cabin is used intermittently by the absentee owner.
No structures are planned for the mine. If needed, portable structures will be used in association
with the mining at the site or activities at the staging area; however, no such uses are currently
anticipated.
10
