IX. Seneca II Permit Renewal N3 11997) Hydrology Information
• A. Hydrologic Monitoring Program
1. Introduction
A ground and surface water monitoring program has evolved over the years to help evaluate the
hydrologic system at Seneca Coal Company's (SCC) Seneca II Mine. Since all strippable coal will be
removed from Seneca II in 1997, the hydrologic monitoring program for this permit renewal will be
used to evaluate postmining effects.
All hydrologic sites are located on Exhibit 7-2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location Map. SCC has
recently developed a new hydrology computer database. This database uses site names different than
those previously used. The old site names will continue to be used in this text and correspond to those
found on Exhibit 7-2. The new site manes will be used on all water reports found in Appendices 7-2
and 7-4. Correlations between new and old names may be found in the Table of Contents for those
appendices, along with the ground and surface water site summaries on Tables 7-98 and 7-102. In
addition, Table 7-97A is provided to detail this new naming system.
2. Ground Water Monitoring ~ ~ .. .
Appendix 7-1 provides well construction and lithologic logs for wells drilled at Seneca II. Table 7-98,
updated every year in the Seneca II Mine Annual Hydrology Report IAHRI, lists pertinent information on
all monitoring wells at Seneca II.
Table 7-99 presents the frequencies of ground water quality and level monitoring. Tables 7-98 and 7-
99 refer to the "long" (Table 7-100) and "short" (Table 7-101) ground water quality parameter lists.
The use of the "short" list was approved by the CDMLR (now the CDMGI during the 1984 mid-term
review as a result of the information provided in the 1983 AHR. The "short" list was established for all
wells except for spoil wells and downgradient alluvial wells. However, the "long" list has voluntarily
been used since 1987 for all wells at Seneca II.
•
7-336 Revised 11/04
