state Rea.
Fish Cre?)c Drainaoe. As with the (Massy Creek drainage, significant .
TDS increases have occtnzed at most of the surfaces water sites
located within the Fish Creels basin. In the 1986 PHC analyses, PWCC
estimated that TDS mar;nnmic of 497 mg/1 aryl 607 mg/1 would be
measured in Fish Creek downstream of Bond Creels during the months of
June and July, respectively, and that Bowl Creek anti pow Cam Creek
were not expected to disrliarge to Fish CY'eek during the months of
August and SeptEanbes. Although NPDFS Sites 004 and 008 continuously
a;~-ha„ge treated mine waters, our records indicate that, during the
1987 through 1990 water years, Bond Creek and Cow Cam Creek
aicrhamed to Fish Creek only during May of each yearly monitoring
period (i.e., May throuc~ September of each year); June discharges
were recorded at Sites 10 and 12 only during 1991, and rlo July
discharges have been recorded since monitoring began in the Fish
(.Peek basin. As has been discussed previously (see "Precipitation"
section), the Seneca Mine has received reduced precipitation (and,
therefore, rwioff) during the 1987 thrax~ 1990 water years when
compared with precipitation received during the 1980 through 1986 •
water years; precipitation received during recent years is mare
representative of average precipitation years, based on
departure-frmn-normal data for Hayden, Colorado. 'ihe highest ZAS
value measised in Fish Creek by PWCC to date has been 896 mg/1,
measured at Site 11 on 9/11/90. Since Site 11 is located upstream of
the mouth of Cow Camp Creek, this maximum TDS value was not caused by
mining activities at the Seneca Mine. On the same day, a 584 mg/1
TDS measurement was recorded at Site 13 on Fish Creek, located
downstream fr~n Bond Creek. .It is interesting to note that for
approximately 50 percent of the time, TDS values at downstream Fish
Creels Site 13 are lower than those at Site 11. This is especially
true for the months of August and Sept~nber, when nearly all of the
'IDS mea5urelresits at Site 13 are lower than Site 11 +~~~remenrts. The
highest TDS value measured at Site 13 was 614 mg/1, recorded on
8/7/90. Although this value is slightly greater than the m~xi~im TDS
prediction far Fish Creek (607 mg/1, predicted to ooczn• in July), it
is important to note that neither Bond Creek nor Cow Camp Creek were •
discharging to Fish Creek on this date. This was the only TDS value
measured at Site 13 greater than 607 mg/1.
7-329 Revised 08/20/93
