• planted on slope areas south of the portals. It is also
planned to plant shrubs on the benches north and above the
portal if during the operation, rocks or debris have spalled
from the walls. Part of the purpose of the benches is to
catch such debris and prevent it rolling into the portal
area. It is expected that very little problem will occur
resulting from blowing of coal or other debris. To the
extent this occurs, water available in the Green Pond area
can be pumped and sprayed on coal fines and waste areas to
settle dust. In addition, it is anticipated that as reclama-
tion proceeds, the dust blowing effect will be mitigated.
Furthermore, the creation of benches and terracing will also.
shelter the operations area and further mitigate air contamina-
tion from blowing dust.
The proposed final use of the affected area will be
forestry, and the area graded, contoured and terraced to
bring the appearance in conformity with the general terrain,
drainage and appearance of undisturbed areas. It is anti-
cipated that final reclamation will occur within five years
following completion of mining operations. After reclamation,
it is anticipated that natural wildlife will inhabit the
area in the same manner as undisturbed areas.
n
LJ
i
- 16 -
