• Pit 2 was never opened and its topsoil was not available to
supplement Pit 1 stockpiles. Consequently, the depth of redis-
tributed topsoil was less than 22 inches. Actual topsoil depth
over the entire Pit 1 disturbed acreage was about 12 inches.
This depth exceeds the 6-inch average approved by the CMLRD for
the 81-acre southern portion of the pit reclaimed during 1987.
SUMMARY
Soil resource information on Wyoming Fuel Company's proposed
permit area was collected by Mined Land Reclamation Consultants
(MRC) in 1979 and Wyoming Fuel Company in 1980.
Soils in the permit area have been described and sampled.
The topsoil in the area of Pit 1 has been salvaged and stock-
piled.
• Topsoil stripping in the area of Pit 2 should begin in July,
1981. The soil resources were assessed and one soil Spicerton
has limitation for salvaging because of high SAR levels and clay
content. The Manburn soil is limited by weathered sandstone at a
depth of approximately 15 inches.
Despite these limitations, the results of this oil inventory
suggest there are adequate soil resources available for revegeta-
tion.
• -20- (Revised April 13, 1990)
