too low, or a cover standard derived from combined herbaceous end woody vegetation from •
the same reference area which is unreasonably high.
The calculated cover standard will be compared to the mean herbaceous cover value for the
revegetated areas. For vegetative cover, the revegetated area shall be considered
acceptable if it is not less than 90 percent of the cover standard with 90 percent
statistical confidence. The general equation to be used in comparing successful
revegetation for cover is as follows:
xrevc .90 (2 (.83x ) • 2 (-17x )) with 90X starts tica( confidence
- bt sc
where: x = mean herbaceous cover - revegetated area
re vc
x = mean herbaceous cover - mountain brush reference area
be
x = mean herbaceous cover - sagebrush ref erenre area
sc
Cover data will be collected using the point-intercept rte r.h od. Sample adequacy will be
met for both reclaimed and reference areas. All sample sites will be randomly located.
Production. Successful revegetation for production in ail reclaimed areas wilt be based •
on herbaceous production (4.15.8(4)). The mean herbaceous production in the revegetated
areas will be compared to the weighted mean herbaceous production determined from the
mountain shrub and sagebrush reference areas. the weighting will be as described in the
earlier discussion on reference areas.
Herbaceous production will be collected by clipping the current years above ground
herbaceous biomass from randomly located one-half square meter or one square meter sample
plots in the revegetated and reference areas. Fencing qr exclosures will be used to
exclude livestock prior to sampling, where necessary. The comparison standard for
production will be determined by taking the mean herbaceous production value for each of
the two reference areas, weighting each value as previously described, and combining the
weighted values to determine [he standard.
The calculated production standard will be Compared [c.
