Benton
County Administrator
Rio Grande County
P.O. Box 396
Del Norte, CO 81132
Dear Hz. Benton:
Enclosed is the Mined Reclamation information you requested, from my
~- office. To simplify the information I have designated the parcels ae
Site O1 (S'-s, SE%, Sec. 21, T40N, R6E) and Site 02 (S~i of NWSy, Sec. 27,
T40N, R4E).
Site O1 - is a Mountain Outwaeh range site. Soils in this site are (N o)
Norte gravelly sandy loam, Claea VII; (N r) Norte-Donal complex, Class VII;
~. and (Dn) Dunul cobbly sandy loam, Class VII. These Boils are usually deep,
sandy gravelly and stony. Because of the coarseness, they lose moat of the
natural moisture to deep percolation. When the range site ie in excellent
condition, up to 1,000 pounds per acre of air dry materials are produced
in favorable years. Usually, Arizona Fescue dominates the cover, but moun-
tain Muhly, Needle grasses, Blue Grams and Slimstem Muhly, along with forba
and law woody plants are generally present. A detailed soils information
sheet is attached.
A visual inspection of the site was made on January 23, 1987. Due to the
snow cover it was difficult to determine present condition and percent of
existing species. Aa near as I can determine, the present condition is poor
(overgrazed) range condition. Present vegetation is: Blue Grams, Rabbit-
brueh, Western Wheatgrass, Three Awn, Sand Dropseed, Slimstem Muhly, and
snakeweed.
A complete Reclamation Plan for Site O1 ie attached.
Site A2 - Soils in this Bite consist of (Jo) Jodero loam, Class VI; and (Tu)
Typic Torrifluvents, Class VII. The loam soils on this natural grassland
are deep enough for good moisture storage. And many areas receive water
that rune off steeper land. Range Bite on this soil is Foothill Loam. This
site cen yield 1,500 pounds per acre, mostly Western Wheatgrass, Needle-and-
Thread end other forage plants -- are possible on range in excellent condition,
in good years. Tall Rabbitbruah usually becomes adundant on overgrazed
range. More detailed range and soils information is attached.
O The Soo Coneervetlon Service
U Is en epency of Iha
DaDerlmenl of AprM:ultus
