TR9PPER MININ& INC.
May 23, 1990
Section Chief
Colorado Dept. of Health
Waste Management Division
Underground Tank Program
4210 East 11th Ave.
Denver, CO 80220
Dear Sir:
As a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado (#26063),
I was present for all excavation, removal and backfilling activities of
the underground storage tanks (UST's) at Trapper Mining Inc. Three
tanks were removed in accordance to State and Federal regulations.
Two of the UST's (main shop UST and light duty UST) showed no evidence
of leakage, while the UST located at the Tube/wash bay showed a small 5-
10 gallon spill near the top of the UST. Approximately two cubic yards
of associated material at the Tube/wash bay UST was contaminated and
removed.
All three tanks had their contents removed until less than one inch of
residue remained. Conservation Services Inc, removed all contaminated
material from the site.
There was no evidence of ground water penetration in the excavated UST
areas or any other presence of a waste oil release. Samples were taken
below the three tanks for testing after the tanks were removed. The
areas were backfilled using a sand/gravel/overburden mixture.
In my opinion, there was no evidence of a waste oil release at the time
of closure of the three UST's.
Sincerely,
/c~W r !~
RWF/jb
[CDOH\MAY23A]
Roger W.
