RATON CREEK SEDIMENTATION POND
Certification of Primary and Emergency Spillway Modifications
A survey of the Raton Creek Pond was conducted on November 22, 2005 to verify and
confirm that recent modifications to the Primary Discharge Inlet and Emergency
Spillway were constructed In substantial accordance with the approved plan as detailed in
the Raton Creek mining permit.
Survey Methodology
N4 survey monuments were readily available. Therefore, the crest of the emergency= ~_~--
- spillway outlet was assurried-to be the design e levation of 6346 feet. The survey level
was set-up on the south interior side-slope of the embankment and rod level readings
were taken along the emergency spillway, pond embankment, water level, and primazy
dischazge inlet. Emergency spillway dimensions were measured with a survey tape.
Survey Data
As Constructed Design Criteria
Elevation of Pond Embankment
Crest South of Emergency Spillway 6355 Not Specified
Crest North of Emergency Spillway 6352 Not Specified
Emergency Spillway
Inlet 6345.9 Not Specified
Outlet 6346 6346
Slope % 0.1% 1-5
Bottom Width 10 ft. 10 ft.
Sideslopes (H:V) 3:1 3:1
Shape Trapezoidal Trapezoidal
Freeboard 5 ft. 1 ft.
Spillway Channel Riprap Gravel Gravel
Primary Spillway
Invert Elevation 6345 6345
Invert Diameter 4 in. 4 in.
Water Elevation 6340 6340
Sediment Elevation (Estimated Average) 6339 6341
Evaluation of Construction
The structure, as modified, substantial conforms to the design criteria. The reduced slope of
the emergency spillway (0.1 % vs. 1-5%) and increase freeboard (5 ft vs. 1 ft) will not
adversely affect the functionality of the structure.
