I-3
• III. WATER AVAILABILITY CHARACTERISTICS
FLOOD IRRIGATION
Regional Irrigation Practice
of North Park
Introduction
This regional analysis of the irrigation practices of a
portion of North Park in Jackson County, Colorado has been
undertaken to provide additional information requested by the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation (MLR) staff in their Walden
Coal Company permit review. The analysis provides an
indication of the irrigability of Mann Draw necessary for
alluvial valley floor determination. This study is based on
information contained in the Kerr Coal Company permit which
is on file at the Office of The Mined Land Reclamation Board.
An agreement was reached between Walden Coal Company and Kerr
Coal Company allowing the information to be used for this
report. The study areas for the present study are shown on
Plate 22, North Park Irrigation Study.
The portion of North Park evaluated for this study includes
alI of the irrigation system believed to exist on the
Canadian River and on the Michigan River, excluding the
Illinois River. The irrigation systems and irrigated areas
were identified on U.S.G.S. 7`~ minute quadrangle maps. No
field verification was attempted. A straight line diagram of
a portion of the Canadian River was compiled from the State
Engineer Basin Rank list and stereo paired air photographs
were evaluated for a portion of the Canadian River area.
Extensive use has been made of Kerr Coal Company Map 27,
titled "North Park Land Use," which delineates the land use
. classifications within a 38,400 acre "area of interest."
