CaBany <br />'ITT~~~/ Division Director <br />Natuml Resource Trustee <br />RE: Znd Hydrology Review, Lupton Lakes Resource, SE TKO Joint Venture, File M-2004-078 <br />Class: Permit <br />This memo contains 2nd adequacy review comments from the Division's Hydrology Review of <br />the Lupton Lakes Resource Regular 112 Application and Mazch 30, 2005 adequacy response, <br />File No. M-2004-078. <br />1. The "Well Location & Hydrologic Features Map" contains a variety of important <br />hydrologic information; however, the map was provided at a scale of 1" = 1,000 feet and some of <br />the detail such as well location and ownership is difficult to read. The Division would appreciate <br />a copy of such map at a scale comparable to the other mining plan maps provided, ie: 1" = 300 <br />feet. Asper Rule 6.2.1(2)(e), maps need to be cleazly readable and prepared at a scale not lazger <br />than 1" = 50 feet nor smaller than 1" + 660 feet. Please respond. <br />Mining <br />2. The applicant has clarified that water from pit de-watering operations will be dischazged at a <br />rate of 45 cfs into two (2) concrete box culverts located in the northwestern comer of the permit <br />area. However, the revised "Mining Plan Map" shows a third point of discharge, ie: Dischazge <br />to Exist ROW. Also, based on the Division's pre-operation inspection on March 4, 2005 it <br />appears that the southern most point of discharge via historic drainage easement consists of a <br />badly eroded channel with potential for headcutting. Dischazge of pit waters at this location will <br />require stabilization of the eroded embankment prior to discharge. Please respond. <br />3. The revised "Mining Plan Map, 3 of 7"depicts 19 distinct units, each less than 25 acres in <br />size while the original "Mining Plan Map, 3 of 7" specified 17 distinct units, each less than 25 <br />acres in size. Conversely, the "Groundwater Model -Lupton Lakes Project"prepazed in <br />Febmary, 2005 specified six (6) distinct phases of mining, Ml through M6, that were used in the <br />assessment of hydrologic impacts to groundwater during mining; and the assessment of impacts <br />to groundwater for these 6 phases was done incrementally rather than cumulatively. Further, the <br />applicant has not provided a map showing the boundaries of the 6 Phases, Ml through M6, as <br />Office of Office of Colorado <br />Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey <br />
