Additional baseline data were obtained in Horse Gulch, the west gulch located east of Horse Gulch,
• the east gulch located east of Horse Gulch and in the Deep Creek drainage above and below the
coal lease boundary. Instantaneous flows, along with monthly peak flows, are measured with a
crest stage gage. After baseline data were collected, West Gulch was eliminated from the
monitoring program because the drainage was dry.
•

A second Sylvester Gulch gaging location, Upper Sylvester Gulch, was added to the monitoring
program in 1996. This gage location, shown on Map 34, was chosen because it is upstream of the
first southeast longwall panel to be mined. Flows will be measured with a permanently installed
nine-inch wide throat, Parshall Flume.
Baseline data have been obtained for Box Canyon prior to longwall mining beneath the drainage.
Periodic monitoring has shown the drainage to be dry most of the time; however, monitoring
will continue in accordance with Table 9.
Table 9
Water R urces Monl o ' r ra

S Water LevellFlow
M urements
Field Parameters
Wate uali
Surtace Water Stations
Middle Sylvester Gulch ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually ~
Lower Sylvester Gulch° 3 times per year10 3 times per year Annually ~
Upper Sylvester Gulch Flume° 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually ~
Minnesota Creek lower (USGS) ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually ~
Minnesota Creek Upper (USES) ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually ~
Lower Dry Fork Flume ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually ~
Middle Dry Fork Flume ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually'
Upper Dry Fork Flume ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually'
Lick Creek Flume ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually ~
North Fork Upper (USGS) ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually'
North Fork Lower 3 times per year Annually ~
Lower Gribble Gulch° 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually °
Horse Gulch° 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually °
East Gulch, East of Horse Gulch° 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually'
Deep Creek, Upper ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually ~
Deep Creek, Lower ° Continuous 3 times per year Annually s
Boz Canyon° 3 times per year 3 times per year Annuall)~
Springs above the F-Seam in the North
Fork Drainage Basin
G-7 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually °
G-14 (decreed Spring #7)r 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually ~
G-16 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually'
G-22 (decreed Spring #3) ~ 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually'
G-24 (decreed Spring #8) ~ 3 times per year 3 times per year Annually'
2.04-82 Revised November 2004 PRIO
