' EXHIBIT D
Soils
Cherokee ~ ~
' ~~
Travessilla-Louviers Complex (LT) ~~~~
' Slope Angle: ~20 to 50Y ~p~ ~`
' These are shallow, well drained soils on steep sideslopes and ridge tops.
The topsoil horizon is shallow, about 4 inches thick. The subsoil horizon is
less than 20 inches deep to more indurated horizons such as shale, sandstone,
and coal of the Vermejo Formation. The Travessilla usually occurs on the ridges
' near sandstone rock outcrops, and the Louviers is found shallow to shale and on
sideslopes. Permeability is moderately rapid for the Travessilla soil and
moderately slow for the Louviers soil, and water-retaining capability of both
' is low. It shows a range from slightly acid to slightly alkaline with a off
range from 6.1 to 7.8. Conductivity i5 low, less than 2 mmhos/cm. This soil
complex is oor for establishing and maintaining plani growth.
' Larand (Lv)
Slope Angle: 5 to 20~
This is a deep, cobbly sandy loam that is excessively drained and found in
cobbly and sandy outwash on toeslopes and fans. The topsoil horizon is
minimal, comprised of cobbly sandy loam about 2 inches thick. The subsurface
horizon is extremely gravelly sandy loam about 13 inches thick. The subsoil horizon
is of the same composition with the addition of clay, and is about 10 inches
' thick.
Below the 25 inch depth is extremely gravelly loamy sand. Permeability is rapid
' and water-retaining capability is low. Larand soil is moderately to slightly
acid, with a pH ranging from ~,~ to 6.5_ Runoff is slow and erosion hazard is
slight. This is a fair soil for establishing and maintaining plant growth,
mostly the development of woodland.
' Noden Loam(Nd)
Slope Angle: 5 to 18Y
This soil is deep and well drained, found on upland terraces and alluvial
' fans. The topsoil horizon is a dark colored loam about 4 inches thick. The
subsoil horizon is a dark colored clay loam to a depth of about 24 inches. The
substratum is loam which extends to depths of 60 inches or more. This soil has
a moderately slow permeability and a high water-retaining capability. It ranges
from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline exhibiting a pH from 6 to 7.6.
Conductivity is low, less than 2 mmhos/cm. On the steeper slopes surface water
runoff is more rapid and erosion hazard is moderate. This soil should establish
and maintain plant growth reasonably well.

1
