M ,. ~ <br />• <br />DIVISION 2 -SITE WORK <br />SECTION 02290 -FILL AREA CONSTRUCTION <br />PART1-GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />• <br />Construction of fill areas as shown on the drawings and as specified herein including foundation <br />preparation, dewatering, fill placement, moisture convol and compaction. <br />1.02 RELATED WORK <br />Section 02100 -Site Preparation <br />Section 02270 -Slope Protection and Erosion Convol <br />PART 2 -MATERIALS <br />2.01 COMPACTED FILL <br />Compacted fill shall consist of random inorganic mixtures of sandy, silty clays to clayey, silty sands. Fill <br />material shall be classif-ied SC-CL according to the Unified Soil Classification System with a minimum of <br />35 percent passing a #200 sieve. The materials shall be obtained from excavations, borrow areas or other <br />sources as directed by the Engineer. It shall be free of any deleterious materials, including materials larger <br />than 5 inches, as determined by the Engineer. Oversize rock fragments shall be wasted as approved by the <br />Engineer or stockpiled for use as riprap when found to be acceptable to the Engineer. <br />PART 3 -EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />No till material shall be placed until the foundation for each section has been dewatered, stripped, suitably <br />prepared and has been approved by the Engineer. <br />All cavities, depressions and irregularities, within the fill area shall be filled with embankment materials as <br />specified for the overlying embankment. <br />3.02 DEWATERING <br />The Contractor shall construe[ and maintain all necessary channels, flumes, drains and related structures; <br />furnish all equipment required to remove water from various parts of the work: and maintain foundations <br />and other pans of the work in a state of dryness so as not to impede work activities, become detrimental to <br />related structures, or cause delays. <br />The Contractor shall design the dewatering system and submit the design to the Engineer for approval <br />prior to dewatering. The dewatering system shall assure that the adjacent facilities and any other work will <br />not be damaged by dewatering operations. <br />The Contractor shall dispose of the water in a suitable manner without damage to adjacent property or <br />without being a menace to public health or without causing a public inconvenience or nuisance. <br />The water shall not be drained into work completed or under consvuction without the consent of the <br />O I /99 <br />Section 02290 -Page 1 of 3 <br />
