The site
is exposed to the south and southeast. Elevation at the site is 6880 ft.
(2,097 m.). The vegetation includes rabbitbrush, sagebrush, and native
grasses. The nearest water source is Foidel Creek, 60 m. to the south.
Cultural materials consisting of many flakes, a large metate, mano frag-
ments, and chipped stone tools, were spread in an area 90 by 100 m. No
visible features were present, but the tool inventory indicates that this
is an open camp. The site has been disturbed by a powerline that crosses
~• the western end. The site is in plain view of Routt County 27 and within
%, m. of the Energy Fuel's strip mine operation.
Diagnostic artifacts: Two mano fragments, Type IVB; a biface, Type I;
a projectile point, Type VB; a graver, Type IB; metates, Type IA, IB, IIB;
and a hammerstone, Type IB.
evaluation: 5RT32 is believed to have potential for yielding information
important to prehistory at the local level. The site has been the scene
of prehistoric domestic activities, and should provide information on hu-
man behavior in the region during the equivalent of the Middle Prehistoric
Period. We recommend that 5RT32 be nominated to the NRHP.
•
