tai
• site: 5RT14 (Figs 1, 27).
Site Type: Open Comp.

Location: NE!;NE'a, Sec. 11, Ton, R86w; UTM Zone 13, E330,050m., N4,467,075ni.
Description: 5RT14 is an open camp located on the west side of a high,
nor*.h-trending ridge that drops into Middle Creek and overlooks the con-
fluence of two seasonal drainages that flow into Middle Creek-. The eleva-
tion is 1380 ft. (2,249 m.). Local vegetation around the site includes sage,
Gamble's oak, grasses, and serviceberry. The site covers an area 35 by 35 m.
The site consists of a thin scatter of flakes adjacent to a small drain-
age roughly 10 m. north of a small seep. It is protected on the north and
east by an aspen grove and exposed to the west. Cultural materials recovered
from this site include flakes, a scraper, and two manos. The site is adja-
cent to an existing powerline and access road, and thus may be subject to
~• disturbance by relic hunters. There is no disturbance visible other than
surface erosion. The site is 300 m. southeast of 5RT13.
Diagnostic Artifacts: TWO manos, Type IVC, IVD; and one unifacial scraper,
Type IIB.
evaluation: 5RT14 has no potential for yielding information important to
regional, state, or national prehistory and should not be nominated to the
NRHP. However, should the site be directly endangered by future develop-
ment, we recommend that other statutes governing the conservation of anti-
quities be invoked and that the site be considered for salvage excavation.
