Tire 9.4 pli value exceeded our
current effluent limitation [o discharge under the Colorado Discharge Permit
System. The elevated pll reading is a result of low water flows combined with
high summertime temperatures causing significant algae growth to develop in
the sediment pond. To eliminate further discharge from this location, the
decant (principal spillway) associated with Coyote Dane vas closed. Additional
pll samples of pond water were taken on 9/6/89 and resulted in values of 8.7
and 8.8.
Further dewacering of Brassile-Simms pit pond should increase tl~e oxygen
supply in Coyote pond and aid in lowering pH levels. If dewatering does no[
result in decreased pH values, a carbon dioxide bubbler will be installed at
the discharge point.
Sandi, if you have any questions, please call.
WA/jb
~CDOH\SEPT07]
G.M.
